Other Potters At Hollyford

There are a number of potters who come and make pots at Hollyford.

Mark Bristowe

Without Mark Bristowe's help Hollyford Pottery wouldn't exist. Mark has been at the workshop at every stage and between us we have turned the once derelict barn into the fully equipped workshop it is today.

Mark has recently been developing a range of forms using the traditional slipware materials and a combination of throwing and hand building. He also is running some experiments in raku.

Debbie Manson

'I share the workshop with Debbie Manson who makes well crafted raku and stoneware domestic pottery. She's also a great organiser with such events as the Six Potters exhibitions. Debbie is married to the internationally renowned guitar maker Andy Manson www.andymanson.co.uk and both Andy and Debbie are tremendously supportive, particularly at firing times, participating in much axe wielding and making of fantastic coffee. The picture shows Debbie coiling an udu, which is a type of drum made from clay.

Tony Barclay

Tony and I have potted together in various workshops for years. Tony currently has a workshop about four miles from Hollyford in Cheriton Fitzpaine. Tony shares my passion for early Winchcombe pottery and old English slipware although his work draws reference from many different types of historical ceramics.

Nicola Raffan

Nicola, pictured with Tony taking a break at a firing, pots about six miles away from Hollyford in a village called Shobrooke. Nicola makes functional gas fired stoneware to a very high standard, having trained at Harrow, Dartington and with David Leach in the '70's. Nicola is another member of the Six Potters group and is a great help during firings.

Luke and Joe

Both of my children are learning to make pots. Although both boys can throw, Joe prefers to use the wheel and Luke enjoys modelling small animals, particularly dogs and figures. Both of them would like to be potters when they grow up.

Pete Tanner

Pete lives just a few miles from Hollyford and is a natural when it comes to firing kilns. He has his own wood fired kiln and makes stoneware, occasionally saltglazing. He always has a couple of lovely slipware pots in my kiln too. Pete has worked with Svend Bayer and Clive Bowen.
